Meet the new Ambassador of Brazil to Lebanon: Jorge Geraldo Kadri. Born in Aparecida, São Paulo, in 1956, Jorge Kadri is of Lebanese descent from Zahle. He completed his secondary education at Escola Preparatória de Cadetes-do-ar (EPCAr) in 1972. From the Air Force, he went to the Navy, graduating in Machinery Engineering from EFOMM – Escola de Formação de Oficiais da Marinha Mercante in 1976. He also holds a degree in Business Administration from UNISUAM (1979) and a master’s degree in the same area from COPPEAD UFRJ (1982), both in Rio de Janeiro.
He began his diplomatic career in 1983 when joined the Brazilian diplomatic academy (Instituto Rio Branco). Since then, he performed numerous functions in the Ministry of External Relations (Ministério das Relações Exteriores) and in the Brazilian Embassies in Madrid (Spain), Canberra (Australia), Asuncion (Paraguay) and in the Permanent Delegation of Brazil to International Organizations in Geneva (Switzerland). He was the head of the Division for the Promotion of the Portuguese Language and the deputy director of the Cultural Department in Brasilia before being appointed Ambassador in Guinea-Bissau (2008-2012) and Poland (2012-2015).
