UN fund allocates $50 million for humanitarian support to displaced Syrians

A UN humanitarian fund has allocated $50 million to boost the work of UN agencies assisting Syrians affected by the ongoing crisis in their homeland.
The allocation from the Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) is the largest ever single contribution to support coordinated response to a single crisis and represents a show of solidarity with the Syrian people.
That’s according to UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos who made the announcement in a statement on Friday.
Most of the funding will go towards supporting aid operations inside Syria, while the remainder will scale up efforts to help Syrian refugees in neighbouring Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.
The UN estimates that the Syrian crisis has displaced more than four million people in Syria, while more than two million Syrian refugees are now living in neighbouring states.
