The “International Lebanese Titanic Committee”, represented by Dr. Nick Kahwaji, artist Bernard Renno and Dr. Gita Hourani, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates affairs, announced an exposition for a Fine Art Gallery in memory of the Lebanese who died onboard the Titanic.
On its way to New York across the Atlantic, the giant ship was sunk on April 14, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg. This led to the unfortunate drowning of the 1,517 passenger s. 125 Lebanese died and out of the 706 survivors, 29 were Lebanese.
The Committee called in a statement “the Lebanese painters to participate in the artistic expression of the Lebanese immigration and Titanic tragic incident.”
The statement noted that the paintings will be exposed during the” Lebanese Diaspora Energy” conference on May 5th and 6th, 2016. The conference is organized by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be held at the Hilton Grand Habtoor Hotel Beirut.
One painting will be selected by the ministry to be put before the Emigrant Museum in Batroun. The remainder of the paintings will be given to the University of Notre Dame, Louaize’.
The participants and organizers will then be honored at the ” Lebanese Diaspora Energy” conference by the ministry. “
Competition Rules:
Panels must sizes are 70×100 or 100X150,
Registration deadline is March 28th, 2016. Paintings must be received no later than April 25th, 2016.
