WLCU British Columbia Council will inaugurate the 2 memorial Benches in Spring 2015

WLCU British Columbia Council will inaugurate the 2 memorial Benches in Spring 2015.

Three years ago we started a project- to donate 2 memorial benches to a Vancouver Park- to honour and commemorate two members of our community, the late Mr. Chawki Rashed (Vancouver), Past President of LCS of BC, and late Mr. Najib Asfar (Victoria), Honorary President of the WLCU – BC Council, who for years had contributed to its growth and success.
Queen Elisabeth Park, that host the Lebanese memorial, was chosen as an excellent location for these benches and will complement  the Lebanese Cedar tree.
We were invited to check the surrounding of the Lebanese cedar tree, to finalize the places of the 2 benches. Carla Zarifeh (LCS Secretary) represented us, and a final places was fixed..
benches location
Queen Elizabeth  Park staff have recommended the placement of the 2 benches approximately 20 meters south of the Cedar of Lebanon providing guests who sit on the benches a very nice view of this magnificent tree.  The two benches will back onto a lovely naturalized garden that has several lilac trees that will begin to bloom in May

We will consider the  50th anniversary celebration of the Lebanese canadian Society of BC in early May 2015 to take advantage of warmer weather and at that time the display gardens in the park will be in full bloom.
