JOHN PAUL II
Apostolic Letter on 7 septembre 1989
, to all the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the situation of Lebanon.
Summary from the Apostolic lettre:

“Lebanon is more than a country: it is a message of freedom and an example of pluralism for East and the West!

We need to know the rich and ancient tradition of collaboration between Christians and Muslims in this country.
This is a characteristic feature of the Lebanese society, there is still some time, was an example.
Better mutual knowledge and the exercise of a mutual dialogue for the service of man are essential conditions of freedom, peace and respect for the dignity of the person.
This pluralism agreed and lived is a fundamental value that led to the long
history of Lebanon.
Therefore, if the country were to disappear, it is the same cause of freedom that will
suffer a dramatic failure.”
