The World Lebanese Cultural Union extends its warm wishes for a new year , hoping that 2007 will bring about stability and prosperity to Lebanon, and to the Lebanese people the ultimate fulfillment of hopes and aspirations. The following is the latest brief on our Union’s position regarding the current situation in Lebanon: 1- The WLCU seeks the ultimate interest of Lebanon and its people and it is not taking side vis-à-vis the ongoing internal political conflict, however it opposes any foreign influence and pressure aiming to paralyze the Lebanese political daily life. 2- The WLCU calls upon all concerned parties to refrain from prolonging their sit-ins in public places and resort to the conference table which is the natural haven to find a solution to the crisis. 3- The WLCU reiterates its support to the international tribunal hoping to reveal the truth and put an end to all political assassinations and crimes committed in Lebanon. 4- The WLCU looks at the current crisis with fear and distress, fear of the short term impact which is the imminent emigration with its negative demographic consequences and distress regarding the gloomy long term repercussion the Lebanese economy would endure and suffer. 5- The WLCU expresses its resentment towards the continious attempts of a local Beirut group to misrepresent the World Lebanese Cultural Union. While visiting some Lebanese officials, this group is ironically giving lessons in patriotism on national TV. This same group, had been devoted to partitionning our Union and to muting the emigrant’s free voice during the Syrian occupation of Lebanon.
