Tension between Ghana and Lebanon caused by irresponsible action of Lebanese consul in Accra.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lebanon in protest of the action undertaken by Consul Suweidan, during the visit of president Sleiman to Ghana.

As part of the recent tour of the President of the Republic of Lebanon, His Excellency General Michel Suleiman, to West Africa to improve on bilateral relations between the nations, there was an unfortunate incident that took place which underlines the lack of cohesion between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Lebanese Diaspora. There was an exchange of harsh words, initiated by the Lebanese Consul of Ghana at the time, Mr. Ahmed Sweydan, and the President of the National Council in Ghana of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, Mr. Chakib Rammal at the arrival hall of the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana. This led to Mr. Rammal formally submitting a complaint to the Office of The President of Lebanon, which can be seen below. As a result, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lebanon in protest of the action undertaken by Mr. Suweidan, taking into consideration the position that Mr. Chakib Rammal holds as the Personal Consultant of Arabic & Islamic Affairs to the Office of The President of Ghana. This incident has caused tension between the relationship of the respective countries.
