Australian National University, Surveying the Lebanese Diaspora for a range of views from the war in Syria, to the Lebanese political system, to security concerns, to the question of identity.

I’m currently undertaking a research project on the views of the Lebanese diaspora communities ranging from Citizenship & identity, the Lebanese political system & key actors, Developments in regional countries, Security, and Lebanese-Syrian relations.

The project intends to examine the relationship between global-regional events and how they impact on the social cohesion of local communities. The question of political identity, ethnic and race relations, Middle Eastern politics, citizenship and multiculturalism are all touched upon in this study.

You may think that your answers are not important because you ‘don’t know much about the Lebanese political system’ or ‘regional developments’ but you’re wrong! It is exactly this cross section of participants that I’m keen to include in this study… if you’re unsure click onto the survey link and decide for yourself.

It is an anonymous survey (largely made up of multiple choice questions), and should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.

You must be 18 and over to participate in this survey.

I should stress that agreeing to do this survey is entirely voluntary on your part. Consent is demonstrated by commencing & submitting this survey. You can opt out of the survey when you wish and without explanation.

The Survey can be accessed by clicking onto the following link: https://anu.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_ab2bzJLWgBDCsOF

You can only do this survey once. You can return to the survey to complete &/or edit up to one week after commencing it.

Survey closes October 31st, 2015.

There are strict ethics and confidentiality requirements by the University in the storage and communication of any material gathered. In the case that you find yourself distressed by the questions being asked please speak to a community elder or call your local counselling services.

I hope that the research findings will be published as journal articles and potentially a book chapter (or two!); hopefully sometime in 2015-16 given the usual processes involved.

I thank you in advance for agreeing to participate in this anonymous survey!

Finally, I would be very appreciative if you can forward this email to your contacts of Lebanese heritage. They can be resident of any country outside of Lebanon. I would also encourage them to forward on to their Lebanese contacts in order to maximise the outcomes of this survey.

Thanks in advance,
