At General Assembly, world leaders seek political solutions in global hotspots

High-level meetings on a range of global hotspots will mark diplomacy at the 68th United Nations General Assembly, which kicks into high gear this week in New York.

On matters from the crisis in Syria to the Middle East Peace Process, Lebanon to Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Somalia and the Sahel, it is hoped that this year’s global conclave, by bringing together the world’s leaders at the United Nations, will help push forward the search for peaceful, political solutions.

The Department of Political Affairs and the political missions it manages in the field are working at the nerve center of the United Nations’ efforts to prevent and resolve conflict in these and many other arenas.

This issue of DPA E-News compiles recently published content from the Department, providing readers with background and insight into how the United Nations is engaging politically with many of the hot-button issues that will be on the agenda of the General Assembly.
