THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF NGO DPI PRESENTS

A SPECIAL OVERVIEW:

THE PAST 4 YEARS OF THE UN NGO DPI CONFERENCES

NGO DPI ON THE ROAD – WITH IMPACT AND OUTCOME FOR ALL

The Executive Committee of the Non-Governmental Organizations Associated with the Untied Nations Department of Public Information present a very special opportunity to meet and exchange with four civil society leaders on Friday 1 February from 1 – 3 PM in NLB Conference Room 1.

Join Chairs and other NGO Leaders from past UN DPI Conferences in 2008 – 2011, when the UN NGO DPI Conferences went on the road to gather a larger share of local civil society voices on the major topics of the day: Human Rights, Nuclear Arms Control, Global Health, and Sustainability.  This is the ONLY major opportunity to date to take part in a full review of the important impacts of the NGOs working closely with UN DPI and throughout the UN community on topics that have shaped the discussions within the General Assembly for years.

The event is presented as part of the Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations and will also include youth who have been part of those conferences as well as youth representatives working with locally associated NGOs.  Youth leaders from across the globe will learn about the role of DPIs civil society component through Q&A and breakout sessions, which will occur after major presentations by:

Shamina DeGonzaga, Chair, UN DPI Conference on Human Rights, Paris 2008

Chuck Hitchcock, Chair, UN DPI Conference on Arms Control, Mexico City, 2009

Mary Norton, Ph.D., Chair, UN DPI Conference on health, Melbourne, 2010, and

Richard Jordan, Experts Committee, UN Conference on Sustainability, Bonn, 2011

UN badge holders, DPI staff, ECOSOC NGOs, and Media are invited to attend on a first come, first seated basis to the presentation on Friday, 1 February from 1-3PM.  There are nearly 500 registered youth attending the Youth Assembly, produced by NGO DPI associated member Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, so please come early (this event occurs during the YA lunch break and so seating will be available).  For more on the full YA program, please visit: www.youthassembly-un.org.

The Executive Committee of the Non-Governmental Organizations Associated with the Untied Nations Department of Public Information (NGO DPI) has partnered with the UN DPI to organize the annual UN DPI NGO conference for sixty five years as part of the UN Charter that includes civil society in its discussion and mission.  For more information on NGO DPI or to interview the speakers, please contact Public Relations Director, Janet C. Salazar at (908) 652 1883 or email [email protected]
